Paul Sullivan, Executive Director


Paul Sullivan, executive directorPaul Sullivan serves at the Executive Director of Veterans for Common Sense.  He served in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq as a Cavalry Scout with the Army's 1st Armored Division during the 1991 Gulf War.  Since 2007, Paul has testified seven times before Congress about the needs and concerns of our Nation's veterans.  During 2008, VCS appeared in more than 300 news articles related to veterans, national security, and civil liberties.

Paul served on the board of directors of the National Gulf War Resource Center from 1995 to 1997, and as NGWRC's executive director from 1997 to 2000.  He was instrumental in providing advocacy for the passage of the “Persian Gulf Veterans Act of 1998,” a new law expanding healthcare and disability benefits for Gulf War veterans.

From 2000 to 2006, Paul worked as a project manager at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where he led a team of analysts and computer programmers who produced the quarterly Gulf War Veterans Information System (GWVIS) reports as well as many other statistical and analytical reports related to the Gulf War, Iraq War, and Afghanistan War.  While at VA, he provided staff support for then-VA Secretary Anthony Principi’s Task Force for Seamless Transition and wrote the 2004 Task Force report.

He graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, and he received a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University.

Paul lives near Austin, Texas with his wife Danielle and their two daughters, Erin and Megan.  In addition to his work at Veterans for Common Sense, he is the Chairman of the Austin Veteran and Family Advocacy Council.  Paul is a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.


Libby Creagh, Development Director


VCS fundraising efforts are the responsibility of Libby Creagh.  She worked for five years at the Florida Consumer Action Network.  Libby prepares grant proposals, writes our weekly update, and handles mailings to our members. She has a bachelor's degree in Social Work.


Danielle Sullivan, Office Manager


The VCS office is managed by Danielle Sullivan.  Her duties include maintaining our files and records, and preparing disclosure forms and documents for review by the executive director and the board of directors.  Her background includes experience as an office manager/bookkeeper as well as nine years as a civil litigation paralegal and five years as a paralegal specializing in veterans' healthcare and disability benefits.

 

Thomas Bandzul, Associate Counsel

Mr. Bandzul is the Associate Counsel for Veterans for Common Sense, and he serves as our legal advisor on legislative affairs and advocacy.  For the past several years, he provided legal assistance to veterans and their families who sought disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.   He has handled claims through to the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

Thomas has served as a contracts manager, program director, and projects coordinator for several large organizations, including Bell Atlantic and Verizon Communication.  He formerly worked as Director of Contracts with government contracting firms such as CACI and BDM Technologies.  During a long legal career, he worked at Mobil Oil Corporation and Koch Industries.

Thomas received his Bachelors degree from Eastern New Mexico University and a JD from the University of Missouri.  He currently lives in Fairfax, VA.  He has three grown children who live in Massachusetts.
