August 10, 2009 - A soldier from Fort Hood, Texas, died Aug. 4 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said Aug. 10. Spc. Jimmy Lee Foxworth, 23, of Phoenix, Ariz., was pronounced dead in his off-post apartment in Killeen.
The autopsy report, completed Aug. 6, showed the gunshot wound to Foxworth's head was self-inflicted, according to information from the Killeen police department. Members of Foxworth's unit, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, went to his apartment to check on him after he failed to show up to the unit's physical training formation, said Nancy Bourget, a Fort Hood spokeswoman. The soldiers called the local police after they found Foxworth, Bourget said. Killeen police officers were called to Foxworth's home between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Aug. 4, according to the police department. Foxworth joined the Army in July 2006 as a petroleum supply specialist and had been assigned to 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, since April 2007. He deployed to Iraq with the unit and returned to Fort Hood in September 2008, Bourget said. His decorations and awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
