VCS salutes President Barack Obama for earning the Nobel Peace Prize for two critical policy positions strongly advocated by VCS during the past seven years: ending torture and ending the foreign policy of pre-emptive, unilateral war.

VCS also thanks Obama for re-engaging the U.S. in international diplomacy, searching for solutions to pollution and global warming, and reducing our most serious military threat: nuclear proliferation and its attendant threat, nuclear terrorism.

We agree with the lucid observation made by former Senator Sam Nunn (D-GA), one of the world's top subject matter experts when it comes to reducing nuclear stockpiles.

Nunn said Obama "has changed the tone of U.S. foreign policy by making it clear to the world that we are in a race between cooperation and catastrophe."
