Veterans group was pushing lawmakers for more mental health counselors for soldiers

November 5, 2009 (Austin American-Statesman) Just as the tragedy was unfolding at Fort Hood, officials from a veterans group based in Austin were meeting in Washington with the staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee to plead for more mental health counselors for U.S. soldiers coming home from war.

VBA will turn to a contractor to reduce backlog of GI educational benefits

October 28, 2009 (NextGov) - The Veterans Affairs Department said it issued a solicitation for temporary contractor support to help process what it called an unprecedented volume of educational benefit claims it has received since the post-9/11 GI bill went into effect.

Make Sure Veterans Get Help with Stress Disorder

October 27, 2009 (The Kansas City Star Editorial Board) Many military personnel who acquired post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are being inappropriately discharged, despite Pentagon assurances that proper policy is being followed.
